In the
November edition of ePolicy, ASCP reported it had teamed up with the American Medical Association to raise concerns to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services about unfair business practices by health plans related to electronic payments for health care services.
In a joint
letter, the two organizations noted that a number of health plans have been charging percentage-based fee on pathologists and other physicians who receive electronic payments via the Automated Clearing House electronic funds transfer (EFT) standard. These concerns prompted CMS to state that they plan to carefully review their policy and enforcement.
